After the loss of our son, Hunter, David and I needed to find a way to have Hunter's memory live on in a positive way for us and our children, while
also helping to find a cure for this terrible disease that will forever affect each of our lives. The loss of a child is something that is every parents
worst nightmare, and for us to be living it is still unbelievable to us both. Through many ideas (about how to spread the word about Alpha-1) that
we both had, we eventually decided to establish a fund in Hunter's memory at Baylor College of Medicine to benefit Dr. Saul Karpen (Hunter's
Doctor) through research into Alpha-1. In Spetember 2003 The Hunter Lee Heitzman Endowment Fund was established with Baylor College of
Medicine. We feel that through this fund, we could let people know about Hunter and Alpha-1 and our cause. We also at the time set up a website
